Corazones Unidos Siempre Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority, Inc. was established on April 29, 1980, on the New Brunswick Campus of Rutgers University in New Jersey. The Alpha Lambda chapter was founded on the campus of UNC Charlotte on June 23, 2004. Our founders are 7 Latina women who had the desire to create an organization that focuses on fostering independence, educating the community, appreciating each other's differences, creating strong bonds, and empowering women. Our organization prides itself on being Latin found not Latin bound, meaning we are an organization that encourages diversity- the Alpha Lambda Chapter is composed of sisters with over 30 different ethnicities and nationalities! The women of Chi Upsilon Sigma consider this sisterhood to be a lifelong commitment. Our values are character, leadership, sisterhood, and service. And our motto is “Wisdom through Education”. The organization focuses on inspiring Hispanic students and other minorities by advocating for a higher level of education and to provide information, guidance, and support for their personal and professional growth. The organization seeks to accomplish this mission by arranging weekly campus tours for public schools around the area, especially those that are considered Title I schools so that they may bring their students and expose them to a college environment. Additionally, the organization plans, organizes and carries out a parents night each semester in which the organization conducts an information session that covers numerous topics on how their child can prepare for college, as well as how the parents can prepare for the transition. The purpose of Lambda Theta Alpha shall be to provide a sisterhood based on unity, love, and respect in an effort to foster the development of strong leaders who will then provide and practice political, social and cultural activities. It shall also be the purpose of Lambda Theta Alpha to promote unity through charitable and educational programs, maintain a higher standard of learning and serve as a voice for all students. LASO will promote educational and cultural exchange in all matters related to Latin America and the Caribbean among the student body, faculty, and staff of UNCC and in the community, and also help to enhance the social, cultural and academic background of Latin-American students and people while at UNCC. The purpose of the LHS is to recognize the academic achievement of Latinx undergraduate students and to support the members while they are enrolled at UNC Charlotte. Additional goals are: to assist members in developing burgeoning professional identities while they are students; to educate the larger campus community about the entire spectrum of Latinx cultures; to assist local Latinx communities in the greater Charlotte area with service. Our mission for the Latinx Student Union of The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is to dedicate to the concerns, needs, wants, converse, and progress of the Latinx population of the University community to provide our members with resources and connections that will help guide them within their collegiate career. The mission of SACNAS Charlotte is to be an on-the-ground ambassador behind SACNAS’ movement to achieve true diversity in STEM. As such, our objectives are to facilitate opportunities and organize activities that benefit our members in the areas of professional development, mentorship, leadership development, and community building.

SHPE changes lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) awareness, access, support and development. Our purpose is to increase the enrollment of Hispanics in the fields of engineering and applied sciences at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, promote the advancement of Hispanic engineers and scientists in employment and education, develop and participate in industry and academic programs that benefit students seeking technical degrees, improve the retention and ensure successful graduation of students enrolled in engineering or applied science degree programs, and provide an open forum for the exchange of ideas and information pertinent to engineering and applied sciences students enrolled at UNC Charlotte.
