About Rose:
Rose is the Director of Information Technology for the College of Arts + Architecture. She earned her M.S. in Business Computer Information Systems and a B.S. in Computer Science, both with distinction. Rose serves as a College Staff Representative on the Council on University Community, which serves to support underrepresented groups and advance diversity in the university community.
Rose played the marimba and bells as part of her high school marching band and concert band. She also played the violin through the beginning of high school.
About Dr. Gámez:
Dr. José L.S. Gámez is the Interim Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Programs in the College of Arts + Architecture and a Professor of Architecture and Urban Design in the School of Architecture. He has also been a Research Fellow with both UNC Charlotte’s Institute for Social Capital and Urban Institute. He served as a Provost’s Faculty Fellow and he was the 2015 recipient of the Provost’s Award for Community Engagement.
His research explores questions of culture in architecture and urbanism through action-based research and public scholarship. His work has been published in Aztlán: A Journal of Chicano Studies, Places: A Forum of Environmental Design, The Journal of Urbanism, The Journal of Applied Geography, and The Plan Journal.
Prior to joining the faculty at UNC Charlotte, he taught at Portland State University and the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. He received his Bachelor of Environmental Design from Texas A&M, his Masters of Architecture from UC Berkeley, and his Ph.D. in Architecture and Urban Design from the University of California at Los Angeles.
His coursework, particularly the Community Planning Workshop, has partnered students with neighborhood groups and non-profits like the Latin American Coalition over many years. These partnerships have provided opportunities for students to engage communities while simultaneously learning and sharing resources. These partnerships have also resulted in awards such as the Architecture for Social Justice Award, Chancellor’s Diversity Challenge Fund, the Provost’s Faculty Award for Community Engagement, and a Provost Faculty Fellowship, which built upon his experiences as a Research Fellow at both UNC Charlotte’s Institute for Social Capital and the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute.

About CarlosAlexis Cruz:
CarlosAlexis Cruz holds an MFA in Physical Theatre (2007) from the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre where he studied a range of movement techniques including Commedia dell’Arte, Laban, Lecoq-based theatre dynamics, Alexander Technique, as well as an extensive voice training in the Linklater voice method. He is an Associate Professor of Physical Theatre in the Department of Theatre and is the CoAA Diversity Coordinator and Special Assistant to the Dean.
CarlosAlexis is the Producing Artistic Director of the Nouveau Sud Circus project; a circus for social change company in service of intercultural and cross cultural communication in the urban region of Charlotte, North Carolina. The company is currently invested in the creation of La BESTIA, a circus take on the journey of central American immigrants.
CarlosAlexis proudly speaks 4 languages and appreciates a good plate of Arroz con Habichuelas y 'Bistec' encebollado. He loves the performing arts and wants to continue to be a conduit for access to the arts for all communities, especially the LatinX community.
