Charlotte Neighborhoods

Locating Charlotte neighborhood information resources

Digital collections

Living Charlotte : the Postwar Development of a New South City is a good starting place. Click on Publications. The focus is development during the postwar era (circa 1944-1987) and it will have a good representation of the items discussed in this LibGuide.

The Atkins Digital page takes you to a number of collections, one of which is Charlotte Redevelopment Commission Collection.  Scroll down in the middle of the page, as Charlotte Redevelopment Commission is one of the last collections listed.  The Charlotte Redevelopment Commission focuses on center city neighborhoods and urban renewal.

Other collections there that may be helpful are those having to do with the Swann vs. Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education case, e.g. Julius L. Chambers, Benjamin S. Horack

Oral History Records in New South Voices and/or Goldmine will almost certainly have neighborhood information.  An audio and/or a transcript is available for each of the interviews.
