Strategies

Teaching Activities: High Risk to Low Risk

ACTIVE LEARNING includes a range from low risk to high risk learning strategies. Possible strategies include (but are not be limited to) some of the following:

Low Risk Techniques

  • involving question and answer sessions
  • individual think and write exercises
  • pairing activities such as "think, pair, share"
  • interactive seminars
  • case studies

Higher Risk Techniques

  • individual and group project based assignments;
  • student involvement in research,
  • internships,
  • practicum experiences,
  • student teaching.

Highest Risk active learning include group based strategies such as:

  • inquiry-based learning
  • cooperative learning  
  • project-based learning
