You may already be registered to vote in the state of North Carolina. To check your voter registration status, search for your name in the North Carolina State Board of Elections database.
If you're registered to vote in a state other than North Carolina, you can check your registration status through the National Association of Secretaries of State.
To vote in an election, you must be registered to vote. You can register to vote through the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
If you have a North Carolina drivers license or an ID issued by the state Department of Motor Vehicles, you can register to vote or update your registration online.
The deadline to register in North Carolina is 25 days prior to Election Day (Friday, October 14, 2022). If you miss the registration deadline, you can still vote, but you must register and vote in person at an early voting site during the early voting period (October 20 to November 5).
To register at an early voting site, you must have proof of residence (i.e. - an NC driver's license, a photo ID issued by a government agency, a utility bill, bank statement, or paycheck showing your name and address, or a current college/university photo ID along with proof of campus residence).
To vote by mail (also known as an absentee ballot), you must request a ballot from the North Carolina State Board of Elections. Any voter in North Carolina can request an absentee ballot/vote by mail for any reason. You can request an absentee ballot online or by printing and mailing a paper form (available in both English and Spanish).
The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot in North Carolina for the November general election is November 1, 2022.
Once you've received your absentee ballot and filled it out, you must return your ballot by 5 pm on Election Day - Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Absentee ballots that are received after Election Day will be counted only if they are received by 5 pm three days after Election Day and postmarked on or before November 8, 2022.
Everyone has a designated polling place to vote in person on Election Day. It's important to know where to vote if you plan on voting in person on Election Day. If you're registered to vote in North Carolina, search for your polling place at the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
You do not need a photo ID to vote in North Carolina in 2022.
Many people like to vote early in person to avoid long lines on Election Day. This is also called one-stop early voting.
Early voting in person in North Carolina runs for 17 days for the November 2022 midterm election (from Thursday, October 22nd to Sunday, November 5th). To vote early in person, you will have to visit one of the designated early voting sites in your county.
Early voting sites also have same-day registration, meaning that if you haven't registered to vote before, you can register at the early voting site and vote on the same day during the early voting period. If you miss the October 14, 2022 deadline for voter registration, voting early in person is the only way you will be able to vote in the 2022 election.

You can vote early on campus during the early voting period (October 20 to November 5)!
The early voting site on campus will be located on the first floor of the Cone University Center. It will be open from 8 am to 7:30 pm on weekdays. Any registered voter in Mecklenburg County can vote early at the campus voting site. You will only be able to vote early on campus during the early voting period. The site will not be open on Election Day (November 8).
