Born-Digital University Records

This guide is for helping departments learn best-practices, and procedures when it comes to record-keeping

Digital Records

What are Born-Digital Records?

  • Born-Digital Records are any records that have been created & remain solely as digital objects. By comparison, scanned-digital objects are those that once existed in paper, or a physical format, before being scanned & copied digitally.

Which Digital Records go to the University Archives?

  • The University Archives is tasked with collecting the records that document the functions & history of the various university departments, committees, & organizations.
  • These records can include Meeting Minutes, Administrative Records, and others outlined in the UNC Records Retention Schedule.
  • The University Archives also accepts historically relevant documents that tell the story of a department or give context to the progress made by individuals or groups as a whole.
