Oral histories provide the researcher with a first person account of how history was impacting them. Many times it is seen as a tool to capture social history through the lens of those who experience it. The definitions below layout what an oral history interview captures.

Louise Smith Brennan Oral History Interview: Louise Smith Brennan discusses her upbringing in Concord focusing on her education and the changing political landscape in the South. Brennan served in the North Carolina General Assembly and worked in state politics.
Barbara Campbell Oral History Interview: Barabara Campbell discusses her career as an editor and media professional as well as her ideas about the shift in the political climate during the 1980s and 1990s.
Margi Goldstein Oral History Interview: In her oral history, Margi Goldstein discussed her involvement with various Jewish groups in the Charlotte area. Goldstein also talks about the possible neglect the Jewish community in Charlotte had for African American civil rights.
Elisabeth G. Hair Oral History Interview: Elisabeth Hair discusses her involvement with the local Democratic party from her membership in the League of Women Voters to being elected the first female chairman of the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners.

Hila Stratton Oral History Interview: In this oral history interview, Stratton discusses her life in Charlotte and her involvement with the Republican Party. During the 1970s and 1980s, she was on the Board of Directors for Central Piedmont Community College and discusses the changes she saw at the College.
Cindy Thomson Oral History Interview: Thomson discusses her involvement in the Charlotte branch of the National Organization for Women including the development of the group in the 1970's and its ongoing changes and challenges to combat sexism as well as be included politically.
