This guide was developed to support research on the history of Charlotte's Presbyterian churches. Organized around the seven founding Presbyterian churches in and around Mecklenburg County, the guide highlights archival materials held by UNC Charlotte's J. Atkins Murrey Library Special Collections and the Columbia Theological Seminary's John Bulow Campbell Library.
This guide also serves as a valuable resource in the development of a digital humanities project led by Dr. Julia Robinson Moore of the Department of Religious Studies. This project aims to develop a living history website that can help community members trace their genealogy and family history using church and cemetery records, including African Americans who may find ancestors and uncover family histories previously lost to history and memory. We hope this project can serve as a tool In building peace and confronting the legacies of slavery intertwined with the history of Charlotte's Presbyterian churches.
