Best Practices: Presenting your work in a digital format

If your project is already digital and it is built on an online platform, it will likely be hosted on that platform. If you are including your project in another website, you will either hyperlink your project or embed it in the new site. Accompany your project with explanatory text that introduces it.

Common options for the larger website include:

When hyperlinking your work:

Use descriptive language for hyperlinked text.

Hyperlink

  • Link to a resource from a webpage
  • Example URL for hyperlinking: https://guides.library.charlotte.edu/area49/VRbestpractices
  • Hyperlink symbol: hyperlink symbol

When embedding your work:

  • Don’t just embed an item. Let your viewer know what they’re seeing using a caption or other descriptive text.
  • Make sure there’s enough room to move around the work. 2-column text might not work well with an embedded item.
  • Example of a webpage with items embedded well: TimelineJS (Note that the full timeline is interactive within the webpage itself, rather than clicking on a link on that webpage.)

Embed

  • Put a resource into a webpage so users can manipulate it without going to another place
  • Example code for embedding:

<div style="position: relative; width: 100%; height: 0; padding-top: 250.0000%; padding-bottom: 48px; box-shadow: 0 2px 8px 0 rgba(63,69,81,0.16); margin-top: 1.6em; margin-bottom: 0.9em; overflow: hidden; border-radius: 8px; will-change: transform;">  <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 100%; height: 100%; top: 0; left: 0; border: none; padding: 0;margin: 0;"    src="https:&#x2F;&#x2F;www.canva.com&#x2F;design&#x2F;DAEWNqurIl4&#x2F;view?embed">  </iframe></div><a href="https:&#x2F;&#x2F;www.canva.com&#x2F;design&#x2F;DAEWNqurIl4&#x2F;view?utm_content=DAEWNqurIl4&amp;utm_campaign=designshare&amp;utm_medium=embeds&amp;utm_source=link" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Virtual Reality Best Practices</a>
