Area 49

This guide provides information on how to use technology within Area 49, as well as guides for digital technologies and physical projects. Area 49 is available for use by all current students, faculty, and staff.

Introduction

Create a fuzzy pipecleaner bookworm! You will need:

  • 6 pipecleaners
  • Pencil or other thin round object

Instructions

 

  1. Select 6 pipe cleaners in desired colors.
  2. Fold 1 pipe cleaner in half. Bend the two tail ends (~ ½ inch each) in opposite directions. These are the antennae on the base pipe cleaner.

  1. Take another pipe cleaner and wrap it around a pencil, creating a cluster that is about an inch wide. Slide this cluster off the pencil, and slide it onto the base pipe cleaner (from Step 2), stopping at the antennae          .

  1. Repeat Step 3 with the remaining four pipe cleaners, sliding them onto the base one after another, leaving an inch or so of the base pipe cleaner at the end.

  1. Twist the base pipe cleaner at the tail to seal off the end.

  1. Bend the bookworm into your desired shape/position.
  2. Use two small dots of fabric glue to attach two mini googly eyes (optional)
